Speed Limit
The older I get I am hyper sensitive to time and the speed at which we are taking each day at. One of the most important changes and challenges with the move was the use of our time . With 3 kids it’s easy to get in a calander cudundrum. Over lapping, over committing jam packed exhausting schedules. Coming from a high speed lifestyle I wanted to be an intentional architect of our family time. Our new home is surrounded by stop signs and 25 MPH speed limits. But a short drive takes you to a bustling city . This is my perfect reminder to take a deep breathes and prioritize and check my speed limit. Its easy to slip back into the pace where the memories are blurred.
I began to really think about how do I attain this balance? What becomes the priorities to make this occur? This is what I have come up with so far:
Spontaneity. Last minute adventures are the best
Passing on invites, leave FOMO behind
Family focused activities
One-on-one activities try to give each kid alone time.
Making down time
Family dinners together around the table = high priority.
Being creative together
Letting the kids have a say in what creative or physical activity occurs
Explore where you live together
Be Brave! Do something that puts butterflies in your stomach… an organized race, passing through a cold stream, or jumping off a rock into a lake. Over coming fears together is the most bonding thing I have ever felt. Being able to say WE did it… we did it together..
During these summer months I am trying to stay remind myself childhood is fleeting and soon enough a more structured Fall will arrive. I hope to continue to check my Speed Limit exercise into the school year.
